The event is reminiscent of Japan’s annual Obon holiday, an important cultural and family event. During this holiday it is said that ancestral spirits revisit their families for three days. The Como Park Lantern Lighting Festival incorporates traditions such as the Bon Odori with Minnesota culture to create new traditions. Every year Mu Performing Arts, Mu-Daiko(太鼓演奏者), みかはる会(ダンスグループ), が毎年「ミネソタ盆踊り」を披露してくれます。.

Event Schedule: 3:00 p.m. to dusk on Sunday, August 23rd, 5015

Free shuttle bus service will be available from a staffed off-site parking lot at the District Service Center located at 1930 Como Ave. (click here to see a map)

Ticket Prices

Adult (age 13 and older) – $5.00

Child (age 3 to 12) – $3.00

Senior (age 65 and under) – $3.00

Donation for Bazaar

JASM is looking for donations of Japan related items to sell at our main booth during the Lantern Lighting Festival on August 23rd. The money that is raised during the Lantern Lighting Festival would be used to fund JASM’s programs that further promote the understanding between Japanese and Americans. If you would like to donate, please bring the items to the JASM office during office hours or bring the items on the day of the Lantern Lighting Festival.
